SPAB Magazine Autumn 2024

Continuing the general theme of heritage craft skills and the SPAB’s role in particular in ensuring their future, the SPAB Magazine (Autumn 2024) features heritage skills. It covers the work of the Building Crafts College and upskilling the next generation of craftspeople and its attempt to reach new audiences; it looks at the importance of apprenticeships and discusses the work necessary to support endangered crafts and the promotion of vital craft skills. SPAB has always been at the forefront of heritage skills training and this issue of the magazine provides an excellent counterpoint to the Historic England report.

Other articles in the SPAB Magazine include a look at the work of one of the 2022 SPAB Craft Fellows, Daahir Mohamed, who has launched a pilot project to empower under-represented groups (including refugees and asylum seekers) with building conservation skills. Marlène Lagnado, a 2024 SPAB Craft Fellow, reflects on the threat to the traditional skills she has witnessed as part of her fellowship.
